Lumbini is a place where queen Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. She was going for a visit to her maternal home Koliya Kingdom, Devdaha. There is a holy pond in Lumbini called Puskarini. This is the pond where Maya Devi took a ritual dip prior to the birth of Siddhartha Gautama. Puskarini is pond where Gautam Buddha had his first bath. On the other hand, Tilaurakot itself has lots of historical importance. Tilaurakot was a palace of King Suddhodhan, father of Buddha. It is a lost kingdom where Buddha spent the first 29 years of his life. The recent wave of discoveries and scientific dating of the artefact also shows that Tilaurakot showed first signs of urbanization starting from sixth century BC.
